Challenge: "New Beginnings"

Hello again!

As promised, I have a couple more February projects to share with you!  (And I had a busy weekend in my craft room!) :-)  First up is a challenge within a private group.  The theme was "New Beginnings", and in addition to creating a project that showed that theme, we were encouraged to use a new technique or product.

Here's the tag I created:

Materials/tools used:
 - Ranger Inkssentials Kraft Tags
 - Ranger Inkssentials Manila Tags
 - Ranger Distress Ink: Fired Brick, Picked Raspberry, Tea Dye, Victorian Velvet
 - Ranger Distress Stain: Fired Brick
 - Ranger Archival Ink: Jet Black, Vermillion
 - Ranger Glossy Accents
 - idea-ology: Cash Keys, Chit Chat - Seasonal, Crinkle Ribbon, Found Relatives, Jump Rings, Remnant Rubs - Life Quotes, Wire Pins
 - Ranger Heat Tool
 - Ranger Inkssentials Blending Foam
 - Tonic Studios: Craft Scissors, Paper Distresser
 - Stampin' Up Small Oval Punch
 - Stamp by Tim Holtz for Stampers Anonymous: CMS155
 - Cold-press watercolour paper
 - Double-sick tape, foam dots from my stash

The new product I started with was the pack of Found Relatives, which are new to Tim Holtz's idea-ology line.  What better symbolizes a new beginning than a wedding photo? From there, I just had fun experimenting and playing, until I came to what you see above.  One thing slightly out of the ordinary for me was to use a Kraft tag as my base, rather than Manila or black.  It was a nice reminder for me to see how smooth those tags actually are to work with, and that they take ink just as beautifully as Manila.  (I have some Kraft cardstock that has a very rough surface, and I tend to forget that Ranger's tags aren't the same!)  I used some ideas from last year's 12 Tags, placing some remnant rubs before I inked my tag, and creating a custom cash key.  Other than a little trouble with the lower remnant rub, I was REALLY happy with how this one turned out!  :-)

I'll be back tomorrow with another post!  :-)

'Til then,

  1. I'm just curious - what do you with all these tags? Do you have a display of them, or do you put them in a scrap book or something like that? Just curious! ;)

  2. Right now, they're hanging around in my craft room until I can figure out how best to display them. I've thought about stringing up a line along the wall, and clipping them on. You can actually get sleeves now that fit #8 tags, and make them into a little book, but I'd rather have them where I can look at them, and be inspired for ideas. :-)
